Industrial Resin Flooring Walsall

Industrial flooring has to be tough enough to cope with everything it faces during its lifetime. That's why most factory or warehouse floors in Walsall have been made of concrete for many decades.

Even so, concrete has its limits and will eventually flake, chip and crack, resulting in expensive repairs and maintenance.

However, there's a newer option that's earned a reputation for being tougher and more versatile than concrete: the resin floor.

Are you a decision-maker or in a position of influence with regard to the type of flooring your company chooses? If so, industrial resin flooring would be a sensible option!

At Epoxy Gang, we provide industrial resin flooring solutions for businesses in Walsall of all sizes, and our technicians have a broad knowledge and a wealth of experience to offer.

And after reading what we have to say about the matter, we are certain that you'll agree that this is the perfect choice for your industrial floor.

What Are The Benefits Of Resin Flooring?

At Epoxy Gang, we stand by our conviction that resin floors are the best choice for industrial environments in most cases.

Here are a few reasons behind our glowing endorsement:

  • It's cost-effective. This versatile method is cheaper than polished concrete, making it a wise option for cutting costs without compromising the quality.
  • It's incredibly hard-wearing. With superior load-bearing qualities and extremely high compressive strength, polyurethane and epoxy resin flooring systems can withstand forklift trucks and other heavy-duty industrial equipment. It has proved to be more durable than most other industrial resin flooring options over the years.
  • It can have anti-static qualities. It is possible to have resin flooring systems installed that allow static charges to dissipate through an earthing point, reducing the possibility of damage to sensitive components or causing fire or explosion when flammable materials are involved.
  • It is slip resistant. While the seamless surface is incredibly smooth, polyurethane and epoxy resin flooring aren't usually slippery when wet. In fact, some examples have better traction in wet conditions! However, for added safety, a special anti-slip coating can be added for increased slip resistance. Health and safety is extremely important to Epoxy Gang, and we strive to provide industrial floor options that create a safe working environment for all.
  • There's a huge range of colour options. Choose from our stock catalogue of popular colours, or create a bespoke design - it's up to you! We can also include cross-hatched warning areas or highlighted walkways to comply with health and safety regulations.
  • It has excellent chemical resistance. This quality is perfect for environments where spills are an occupational hazard. Resin flooring can cope with all kinds of substances and chemicals, whether acid or alkali, oils, fats or fuels of all kinds.
  • Long-term performance. Industrial resin flooring will last for at least ten years and probably twice that (or more!) and will retain all of its admirable qualities.
  • Low maintenance. Both epoxy resin and polyurethane floor coatings can be cleaned easily. If they're 9mm thick or greater, they can be steam cleaned if necessary, but otherwise, wiping the surface down with a mop will suffice. The smooth, seamless surface makes it difficult for dirt or dust to stick.
  • An eco-friendly option. The materials involved in resin flooring are almost entirely of natural origin and can be recycled. This makes it a sustainable option, especially when compared with concrete and cement (cement production alone generates around 2.5 billion tonnes of CO2 a year, as well as carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxides).

With credentials like this, it's clear that industrial resin flooring has a bright future ahead, and it would seem like an easy choice to make.

However, in the interests of fairness and to give you the full picture, we should examine any negative points.

Industrial Resin: The Downsides

Under certain circumstances, a resin floor can become slippery. While epoxy resin itself isn't slippery, and in fact, can become less so when wet, some substances can present a slip hazard when spilt.

However, this problem can be overcome by applying a coating to increase slip resistance. This could be in the form of paint or fine powder - your Epoxy Gang technician will advise you on this, or you can ask about these coatings when you speak to our friendly team when you book your resin floor installation.

The only other problem with resin floors is that they can fail.

This admission might come as a surprise, but it's true - polyurethane and epoxy flooring can let you down.

We feel it's important to make this point because the reason behind 99% of these failures is incorrect installation methods. Incompetent, unskilled or disreputable resin floor companies will use the wrong methods and mixes, leading to contamination of the resin.

If the substrate isn't prepared, levelled, repaired and cleaned thoroughly, then the flooring will soon show signs of this. It may crack, flake or blister. The surface may become clouded and spoiled. And your investment will be lost - unless you can recover the funds, which often proves difficult.

There are two lessons here:

  • While a resin floor can fail, it's largely due to incompetence.
  • Only ever hire a trusted, reputable contractor to do the job!

How Long Is The Installation Process

How Long Is The Installation Process?

We usually recommend allowing around five days for completion, but the size of the area needs to be taken into account. A small industrial unit would only take a couple of days, whereas a much larger space could extend the time by three or four days.

Epoxy floors typically take about a week to cure fully but are usually dry enough to walk on after around 12 hours. You'll need to wait for at least 36 and possibly up to 72 hours after installation to expose the floor to heavy use.

The Epoxy Gang team will provide relevant advice when the installation is completed.

We always strive to keep disruption to a minimum, but this isn't a job that can be rushed, and the resin must be allowed time to set hard and kept free from contamination by dust, dirt or liquids or the finish will be compromised.
